Mimic/Trace of a wild deer
This oval-shaped box, made of deerhide and reinforced with urushi lacquer, is Yoko Ichikawa’s way of honouring the life of hunted deer, whose increasing numbers have become a social issue locally. She intentionally left the traces of its life—the scratches and scars—visible on the surface, rather than covering them up with a darker-coloured coating.
