Layer series, Jar

Using the glassblowing technique, Dongwan Kim shapes the glass into a traditional Korean pot form in his own style. The glass surface is then coated with several layers of lacquer, a natural resin derived from lacquer trees, through a repeated process of painting and drying. The surface is then carefully ground to reveal the layers of lacquer beneath, gradually unveiling a unique pattern and texture to complete the piece.
