Renato Costa e Silva Porcelain jar©Renato Costa e Silva

Porcelain jar

This porcelain jar was initially wheel-thrown as a cylinder and then manually worked into its final form. The vessel was fired in a smokeless kiln at 1300°C. This wood-fired kiln produces almost no smoke but creates the same effect on surfaces as other wood-fired kilns. Renato fired the jar partially in embers to give the surface its distinctive finish.
