Woodcarving recognised by UNESCO
Combining traditional woodcarving techniques with modern world-class design, Zanat is one of the most famous brands for furniture and accessories design in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the surrounding countries. It is based on a centuries-old family tradition of making quality handcarved furniture and wooden accessories. The handcarving technique used and preserved by Zanat is originally from Konjic, a small town south of the capital Sarajevo, where the owners Orhan and Adem Nikšić were born and later founded their business.
In 2017, the woodcarving technique, which was greatly improved and preserved by the Nikšić family, was officially inscribed on the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, confirming the uniqueness of the artistic craft with recognizable visual identity and hand cut motifs. Zanat proudly keeps the tradition alive, combining old handcarving techniques with modern design.
