The patient craft and design of jewellery

Cristina Romo comes from a family of master silversmiths, from whom she learned the craft. For Eduardo Herrera, the world of silversmithing was entirely new, yet it immediately captured his interest and inspired him to begin designing his own pieces. Although each initially developed their career independently, in 2018 the pair have worked together under the name RomoHerrera. “Every piece is sold under the same name, but each one also bears the initials of its designer: CR for Cristina Romo and EH for Eduardo Herrera,” Eduardo explains. “The techniques we use are traditional methods passed down from parents to children, or shared within the local community. They have been preserved and continue to form part of the area's living knowledge.”

Both Cristina and Eduardo believe their greatest strength lies in their ability to observe the world patiently and with close attention to detail. Combined with a strong sense of artistic expression, this has enabled them to create designs that do not follow fashions or trends, but instead reinterpret the ever-changing natural world. “We have been able to do this for many reasons,” Eduardo concludes, “but the most important is that we live in a rural area, away from the city. Here, we have learned to live without rushing, far removed from the relentless pace of urban life.”
