The wabi-sabi soul of paper
- Paola and Mirko embrace the beauty of imperfection through paper creations
- They invite the viewer's imagination to travel to fantastical and exotic places
- Their creations include notebooks, accessories and sculptural objects
In 2016, Paola Angelini and Mirko Mauri founded their workshop 7 Nodi with the hopes of adding flavour to life through functional and decorative paper art. “Every day is a blank canvas,” they say. “We want to enrich daily life with echoes from the past, surrealist contradictions, fairy tales and modern romanticism.” Influenced by Bruno Munari, environmental responsibility is central to their workshop. Before they launch into the creation process, Paola and Mirko ensure that their designs consist of recyclable and certified materials. The duo often works with a paper interlocking system using tabs and folds, without applying any glue or plastic. "In an increasingly digital world, there will always be a need for hands to transform materials into something meaningful," they explain.

INTERVIEW
We are inspired by daily life and Bruno Munari’s approach to responsible design. We combine these influences with aesthetic research and experimentation. Our creations invite the imagination to travel far, reaching a blurred state between the known and the unknown, where memory becomes history.
Paper is a living material that holds structure and narrative, fragile only in appearance. Each type of paper has its own scent, sound and reaction to folding, stitching and light. We love its humble yet noble nature, which gains character as it ages. The material seeks authenticity rather than absolute perfection.
Our creations carry a wabi-sabi soul that embraces the beauty of imperfection. Our uniqueness lies in the process. The ideation, design and production happen entirely within our workshop, without outsourcing. This in-house method allows for technical distinctiveness and gives our creations their handmade quality far removed from mass production.
Crafting requires patience, deliberation and dedication. Learn to listen to materials with respect and do not fear mistakes as they open new paths. Nurture curiosity through art and nature to build your own language, and avoid shortcuts. Paper art rewards consistency.
