Babacar Diouf grew up in Dakar, between the bustling neighbourhood of Pikine and his ancestral village of Bandia. In Pikine, he spent long hours copying drawings from comic books and mangas. In the countryside, he and his cousins walked a few kilometres each morning to collect clay to fashion toys that would disintegrate come the evening, repeating this process day after day. Babacar graduated high school at the top of his class in Philosophy, before opting to attend art school, followed by a Master’s degree in art and culture. He also became an international champion in karate. His drawings, paintings and sculptures have garnered international recognition. Babacar continues to create while teaching art at high school and university levels in Senegal.
