A childlike curiosity
- Marita enjoys practising new techniques
- Her pieces are inspired by fantasy
- She coats organic materials in silver
Marita Lumi's pieces are unique like her personality, that shines through all of her handmade jewellery. She loves to explore the different worlds of science through her work, by experimenting with organic materials, mixed in galvanoplastic through electroforming techniques. Yet, at the same time Marita masters the traditional fine work of installing stones, like zircons and even more precious gems into her pieces. A childlike curiosity is instilled in her nature, whilst she treads this magical field of precious metals. For her it’s a marvellous journey of exploration without an end, by combining the traditional artisan techniques with modern science.

INTERVIEW
When I was a child my mother collected jewellery, but I wasn’t allowed close to her collections, because I liked to unravel them. However, I still secretly sneaked to have a peak and learn about their properties and materials!
Everything around me! Different locations and cultures speak to me differently. For instance, during my time in Portugal I was inspired by the local music. This made me build a wearable harp skirt -instrument, that could be played!
Jewellery has always had a concept of protection around it for its wearer and the sense of providing security. Besides working as an amulet, jewellery should also be beautiful and wearable!
My favourite collection is my last one, called Dzungel, the jungle. Some pieces in the collection have over 3000 handpicked and installed stones, some even 5000 stones! This collection has already travelled to many cities during the past two years.
