The challenge to redefine glass

Laguna~B was established by Marie Brandolini in Venice in 1994 to set new standards of excellence in the world of drinking glassware. With her signature interpretation, she transformed the then-casual aesthetics of goto de fornasa, an everyday cup that the master glassblowers used to make for themselves using leftovers, into an iconic glass-type, well-known today. Marie’s son Marcantonio took over the business in 2017, continuing to design handmade products for contemporary tables. The company’s brick-and-mortar store includes a curated library and an exhibition space, cementing its place in Venice’s cultural fabric.

In 2024, Laguna~B reissued a limited series of Pancho vases from an original 1995 design by founder Marie Brandolini. The Pancho making process is almost identical to that of the goto, with compositions of glass canes and large murrine on a background of solid colour glass. A pear-sized quantity of burning glass is taken from the kiln and dipped into a glass powder to determine the background colour. It is then returned to the kiln so the powder melts into the glass. The glassworker rolls the piece onto the marver, where the design elements lie, and once they are embedded in the glass, it can be blown and shaped.
