Kammy Wong uses weathered wood, branches and root structures to create expressive light installations and bejewelled sculptures. Inspired by the Chinese Lingnan Penjing technique of bonsai ‘clip and grow’ practised by her father, Master Wong Chau Shing, she blends traditional wisdom and techniques with modern materials and an inventive use of light. Kammy adorns the wood forms with lights, metal and magnets, underglaze, gold leaf, as well as pearls and gemstones, acrylic paints, and luminescent particles. "These elements invite viewers to engage with the work and experience the energy of life that continues beyond form,” says Kammy. Her process involves preparing the selected trunks and branches by cleaning them and sterilising them through controlled boiling, then immersing them in clear varnish to seal and strengthen the wood. In the second stage, decorative materials are applied, and the final stage involves a resin coating for durability.
