Weaving with social responsibility at heart
Located deep in the Carpathian mountains, in a small town called Kosiv, famous for its colourful ceramics and wool production, you can find Gushka. The atelier represents a new generation of Ukrainian craft enterprises. Not only do they create fantastic objects from wool, but the workshop also aims to promote and support the centuries-old local weaving techniques. Apart from that, Gushka is a socially-oriented business, financing a creative community hub, Didova Khatchyna, located in the mountains nearby.
Gushka’s most popular item is “lizhnyk”, a traditional woven rug that is an obligatory part of every Hutsul (Ukrainian ethnic group) home in the region. The atelier preaches a “meadow-to-consumer” approach to production, meaning that every object is made out of the wool of Carpathian sheeps and crafted by the local weavers. Gushka leads a sustainable, environmentally-friendly operation that has a mission to support regional development. Their woollen products are not only popular in Ukraine, but also grace homes and collections around the globe.
