Gipsoteca Mondazzi

Plaster and stucco working

Turin, Italy

Carving romantic figures

The Gipsoteca, founded in the 1930s and taken over by the Mondazzi family in 1975, produces plaster statues, busts, reliefs and anatomies, often used as didactic models by art schools and academies, as well as to decorate private homes and public spaces. The workshop also carries out restorations of plaster, marble and ceramic statues.

The Gipsoteca makes replicas of artworks in the Mondazzi collection, consisting of 1500 copies of sculptures ranging from ancient Egypt to contemporary art, through Greco-Roman statues and the Renaissance. Particular attention is paid to the patinas: to restore the visual impact of the original artwork as faithfully as possible, the plaster is treated with various natural products such as soils, organic pigments, waxes and resins.
