Fuschina da Guarda

Blacksmithing

Guarda, Switzerland

Living with metal and fire

Situated in the town of Guarda, in the lower Engadin region of Switzerland, the atelier Fuschina da Guarda was taken over by Thomas Lampert in 2002 and has grown ever since. It showcases traditional Swiss blacksmithing. The name of the atelier is in itself a testament to local traditions, as fuschina is the Romansh word for forging. It is today an atelier as well as a museum and a restaurant, offering guests a complete experience of craft, local traditions and gastronomy.

Although the atelier is most well-known for its traditional knives, Thomas and his team are passionate about designing and producing a wide variety of metal works, from shoe scraper irons to stairs, frying pans, and doors. As well as creating original pieces, Fuschina da Guarda also specialises in restoration and reconstruction work. Thomas believes that innovative continuity means maintaining tried-and-tested techniques on the one hand, and tirelessly developing them further for new conditions and requirements on the other.
