Founder of Pilchuck Glass School in Washington State, Dale Chihuly has led the development of glass as a fine art since 1971. Over his distinguished career, he has created more than a dozen well known series of works, among them Cylinders and Baskets in the 1970s, Seaforms, Macchia, Persians and Venetians in the 1980s, Niijima Floats and Chandeliers in the 1990s, and Fiori in the 2000s. Dale’s approach to team glassblowing derives from time spent in Venice during a Fullbright Scholarship in the mid-1960s, an approach he has celebrated in his studio. He is known for his large architectural installations, which have featured in botanic gardens around the world and over the canals and piazzas of Venice. His work is included in more than 200 museum collections worldwide.
