Caralarga

Textile creation

Santiago de Querétaro, Mexico

A definitive inspiration in textile repurposing

Caralarga, a Mexican atelier based in the Hércules neighbourhood of Querétaro, was founded in 2014. Designer and creative director Ana Holschneider and master artisan Socorro Gasca combined their talents to transform diverse materials into textile jewellery, clothing, interior objects and large-scale installations by hand. Later, when Ana came across raw cotton from the historic El Hércules manufacturer, they began to develop contemporary handmade works while preserving the essence of traditional techniques. Working with leftover yarn, sansevieria fibre and handmade cardboard spheres, Caralarga employs winding, macramé, braiding and recovered thread techniques to reinterpret Mexican traditions through a minimalist approach.

With Ariadna García joining as General Director, the atelier continued to grow. Rooted in its neighbourhood, today Caralarga also opens its doors to clients, students and the local community, offering guided tours of its history and production processes. "Our identity is based on social impact and community work in the Hércules neighbourhood, preserving the local textile identity," the team says. Socorro Gasca continues to produce and transmit her knowledge in the workshop, training new artisans recognised for their skill and commitment to creating unique pieces from Mexico for the world.
