The Museum of the Meissen Porcelain Foundation displays works from the manufacturer'ss more than 300 years of history, including masterpieces of the Baroque and Rococo styles - the golden age of Meissen porcelain art - and the mythical Swan Service, created from 1736 by Johann Joachim Kaendler and Johann Friedrich Eberlein: a visually overpowering symphony of shapes and colours on the underlying theme of the mythology of water.

The museum was first inaugurated in 1916, not only to show the splendour of the oldest porcelain manufacturer in Europe, but also in order to serve as a collection of specimen pieces for its master artisans. A recently added exhibition area of the museum lets visitors experience interactively the mysterious origins of Meissen porcelain and learn everything about Johann Friedrich Böttger, famous alchemist and inventor of Meissen porcelain. Temporary exhibitions on specific themes are organised as well.
