Design and make your own knife
Sculptor turned knife maker Paulo Tuna brings art and passion to the functional world of knife making. He invites individuals from beginner to advanced level to spend a full day at his workshop in Caldas da Rainha to learn the processes of knife making. After an initial safety briefing, Paulo explains how to design a blade, bearing in mind different options and ergonomics. Participants then cut the blade from a piece of steel, heat it in a gas forge, and hammer and grind it into shape. After choosing the wood for the handle, they cut, sand and glue it to the blade and finally witness the completion of their own handmade knife.
