The vase, handcrafted from iron-rich dark brown earthenware clay, was created for the 6th Tobiten Exhibition. Jun Isezaki does not use glaze in his works; the distinct appearance of the vase is created by spontaneous changes in colour that occur in the Anagama kiln during the firing. He wraps the pottery with straw before the firing. In doing so, the ceramic vase is imbued with patterns created by straw combusting onto the clay.
