Elird

Jewellery maker

Bringing the cosmos to jewellery

  • Ena and Ebrahim have been making jewellery together since 2016
  • Their jewellery pieces combine design, painting and sculpture
  • Their works have received international awards

A designer from Bosnia and Herzegovina and an Iranian painter met in Turkey, became friends, and casually started creating jewellery together. A few years on and Ena Mulavdić and Ebrahim Mohammadian Elird's jewellery pieces are exhibited all over the world, winning awards and appearing in Vogue. Interested in making jewellery, Ena was one of Ebrahim's apprentices, and that is how the artistic duo's journey to a joint business began. Along the way, they learned from each other and found they complement each other’s skills. Their captivating rings, necklaces and earrings are the result of their combined academic training in design, painting and sculpture, and of their coordinated teamwork.

Interview

  • How do you incorporate both of your cultures into your designs?

We strive to have an approach that transcends cultural, racial, religious, political, and other identities. Both our cultures are very rich in artistic and jewellery techniques and styles, and being able to learn from this deep heritage and having it in our DNA is certainly a great asset.

  • Where do you get your inspiration from?

We find it in nature, in people, in the micro and macro worlds, in our dreams and most importantly – in ourselves – where every human being has stored all the information about the cosmos. We must find a way to release that knowledge and learn from it.

  • How do you combine tradition and innovation in your work?

Tradition and innovation always go together. We believe that to innovate in the craft, you need to know well the techniques and approaches that are defined as traditional. This provides a strong foundation for further research and finding new possibilities to express ourselves.

  • What do the awards you received mean to you?

Awards are a good opportunity for networking and new ventures. However, they are certainly not the most important part of our working life. The most important reward for us is the opportunity to connect with different people, through our work, and to share love with the world.
