Denise Lasnier

Jewellery maker

Silver twinned with mosaics

  • Denise values the freedom of creation
  • Her pieces tend to be reversible
  • Her relationship with her clients is very important to her

The first time Denise Lasnier considered dedicating herself to jewellery, she was working in a travel agency. "I had to rest for months due to a herniated disc, which helped me realise that I was not happy with my life and my job at that moment," she says. "I thought about devoting all my time to something that would make me feel fulfilled, and I remembered that everything related to creativity and handicrafts is what I really love." She decided to take goldsmithing classes to learn the technical making process and fell in love with the craft. Denise considers herself an author-jeweler. "I use classical techniques to create personal and contemporary jewellery pieces, incorporating traditional materials such as leather into a piece of silver jewellery. The fact that my pieces are reversible makes them innovative." For Denise, a well made piece must have excellent finishes and harmony in its design. "A personal stamp of the creator that allows you to know who made it just by looking at it."

Interview

  • What is the process you follow when using recycled stones?

I use small pieces of stone to create a micro-mosaic which is then embedded in the silver piece. In this process, I can re-use stone objects or carved stones that are already broken, as I can use very small pieces. Many times, my clients bring me their own stones.

  • How was it to include leather in your pieces?

The idea that gave birth to the Azara line was to use a traditional material very representative of our country, such as leather, giving it a non-traditional use. Through piercing, soldering, and polishing, I obtained pieces that, when combined with leather, acquire a unique beauty. Rustic and refined at the same time.

  • What do you enjoy the most about working with your hands?

What I like the most is the connection with myself. I love my workshop; it is a space of peace where time stands still. I enjoy creating jewellery that brings joy to both the wearer and the creator. I feel truly very grateful to enjoy my work every day.

  • Do you have a method or work routine?

I start every day at 10 in the morning with a cup of coffee on the workbench, but the task I perform varies depending on the pieces I have to make and the stage of development they are at.
