How do you express tradition and innovation in your work?
We try to mix the old with the new in a way that honours the techniques of previous generations. Wood as our primary material is something we value highly. Making items that have a tangible connection with nature and the cycle of life, ensures the sustainability of our designs.
In what way is your craft linked to your homeland?
Woodworking has deep traditions in Finnish culture. Most Finns used to make everything they own themselves. People knew basic joinery in order to create their furniture, tools and other items. We like this idea of self-sufficiency. Through Jaska we try and keep this connection alive.

Do you master any specific techniques?
We love traditional methods of joinery and like to utilise self-made jigs. Working with veneer has a connection to Finnish masters such as Alvar Aalto and his colleague Otto Korhonen. In addition to traditional hand tools, we utilise modern engineering methods like 3D-modelling in the design phases and CNC-milling for precision parts.
What does well made mean to you?
With regards to our products, well made means that every item we create meets the same quality promised by Jaska in the Wild, but also that every item is unique and made with love, care, and embodies the spirit of the northern wilderness.
