Karin Mölder

Glass fuser

Painting with sand

  • Karin's glass works are inspired by an unseen dimension
  • She likes to use free flow in her creative process
  • She makes spontaneous splashes with glass

Karin Mölder found her calling when she stepped into a Danish glass studio during a holiday. From that moment on she knew immediately that she would dedicate her life to glass. Without any hesitation, she plunged into the deeper dimension of creating and experimenting with glass. Gathering knowledge from masters in the field, she has won several awards and earned recognition during her career. Every now and then she secretly sneaks away to Taevaskoda; picks up sand to use in her beautiful masterpieces, to give an exquisite texture to her works. Inspired by her grandmother's rugs and their rhythmical patterns, she believes refined work does not equate to a masterpiece, instead the free flow of spontaneity is the key to real creativity.

How does your region influence you?
A place called Taevaskoda is near my studio and I feel that my soul resonates with its sands. I spend time in this special place, gathering inspiration from different sand tones and later using some of the sand in my works.
What is your source of inspiration?
I see visions in front of my eyes full of compositions, forms, ideas and even dimensions that can’t be explained. Also, my grandmother's rug patterns that show contradictions, like night and day, inspire me.
How much time does a piece take?
Sometimes up to four months. I use special techniques that I have acquired during my 10-years of experience and experimentation. In each phase of the creative process are important steps, there really is no space for errors.
What is your motto?
“Glass will always wait for me in time, but it will never forgive how I treat it”. Just like love can wait a decade, the feeling won’t change, but how someone is treated can’t be forgiven.
